TRANSFORMER REGULATED CHARGER MRT TYPE FOR LEAD BATTERIES Open
In presence of the mains, the generator made up of a regulated charger, ensures the charge and the maintenance of the associated battery.
OPERATION OF THE CHARGER
The essential characteristic of this charger is its operation in constant tension and limited flow on a use. The charger has two automatic charging stages: floating and equalization.
a) FLOATING
This is the regime used in normal operation. The floating voltage (generally 2.2V for Open Lead battery cells) applied to the battery terminals is kept constant at ± 1%, despite variations in the power supply network and the load, which allows the battery to be supplied to the operating circuit in the best voltage conditions and to retain its initial state of charge by delivering a low current to compensate for its internal losses due to the chemical reaction.
b) EQUALIZATION
This is the regime used for charging the battery. The equalization voltage (generally 2.4 V for Open Lead acid battery cells) applied to the battery terminals is kept constant at ± 1%, despite variations in the supply network and load, and thus allows the battery to be charged under the best voltage conditions.
c) INTENSIVE LIMITATION
This is an exceptional operating mode which cannot be chosen but which is imposed as soon as the rectifier flow rate tends to exceed the nominal rating. In order to limit its heating and the destruction of certain components, the rectifier automatically switches to current limiting in the following cases
when the mains supply returns, following an excessive discharge of the battery
when momentary overloads, due to consumption peaks, exceed the rectifier’s
exceed the possibilities of the rectifier.
